CATHAY PACIFIC AIRWAYS LIMITED 國泰航空有限公司
Air China's balance sheet worries
We look at the highly-geared balance sheet of Air China, the bizarre and unfinished mini-subscription by its parent launched 6 months ago, and the likely need for a much larger equity financing if it is going to run on free-market principles, which in turn has implications for Cathay Pacific's 20% stake. Cathay Pacific on OFT Investigation
Company announcement, 23-Apr-2010
"Cathay Pacific has a policy of full compliance with competition law" - but we'd be shocked if they had a policy of non-compliance with any law! Then again, the company pleaded guilty in 2008 to USA criminal price-fixing charges on air cargo from HK to the USA and elsewhere and was fined US$60m.

Vampire - Nothing Left to Prove
Last week saw AGMs of CITIC Pacific, Hysan, Li & Fung, China Unicom, Cathay, Swire, HK Electric and CKI. In every case, a majority of investor votes were against the 20% cash issue mandate, but controllers pushed it through. With 10 HSI companies now having voted, Project Vampire has nothing left to prove - investors have voted on average by more than 2 to 1 against the issue mandate. It's time for the regulators to act. (16-May-2004)
Vampire bites Cathay
Investors in Cathay Pacific last week voted by an estimated 62:38 margin against the general issue mandate at the AGM, the largest margin yet. We were also eventually successful in persuading the Chairman to open the meeting to the media. (18-May-2003)
Cathay Pacific Voting Recommendations
The 9th AGM in Project Poll is on 14-May-03. We recommend investors to vote against the re-election of a banker as an independent director, and against the general mandate. There are only 4 days before cut-off, so VOTE NOW. (15-May-2003)
